Buffalo woman dies from injuries suffered in car crash near airport last week

Buffalo News
By Keith McShea / Updated Feb 18, 2020

A Buffalo woman who was critically injured last week in a motor vehicle crash on Genesee Street in Cheektowaga has died from her injuries, the Cheektowaga Police Department announced Tuesday.

Sarah K. Cole, 34, died on Sunday, police said.

Cole was driving eastbound on Genesee, just east of Holtz Drive near the Buffalo Niagara International Airport, at approximately 10:40 p.m. Feb. 12 when her 2012 Dodge Journey crossed over into the westbound lanes.

Cole’s vehicle struck a 2019 Freightliner delivery truck, which was operated by 47-year-old Xin Wang of New York City, officials said.

Cole was extricated from her vehicle by Hy-View Fire District No. 8 of Cheektowaga and then taken via ambulance to Erie County Medical Center, where she was listed in critical condition. The driver of the truck sustained minor injures.

The accident remains under investigation.

The Cheektowaga Police Accident Investigation Unit asks that anyone who witnessed the accident to please contact them at 686-3580.
